ICELAND 
 

The age to work as an au pair in Iceland must be between 18 and 26 years old. 
The duration of the stay is at maximum 12 months not renewable. 
Working hours are at most 30 per week. 
Pocket money is around 10,000 Icelandic krona (IKR) per week.  
Au pair is entitled of two full days off per week and at least one weekend free per month.  
Au pair is entitled of a week of vacation for every six months worked in the same family.  
Travel costs are in charge of the Au Pair. 
The costs of the language course are in charge of the au pair and she/he must have enough free time to be able to attend the course. 
 
The au pair from the Member States of the SEE (they are those belonging to the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) has to inform herself if the coverage of health insurance also extends to Iceland. Otherwise, the au pairs from the SEE Member States should enter into a private health insurance.  
Au pairs coming from countries outside the SEE must take out a health insurance at an insurance company approved in Iceland. 
 
About the permits in order to be placed as an au pair in Iceland, the au pairs from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden do not need a residence permit. 
The au pairs from all others Member States of the SEE do not need the residence permit for less than three months. For stays exceeding 3 months, the au pairs apply for a residence permit for employment purposes.  
 
Au pairs from the non-SEE States are obliged to apply for a temporary permit for a determinate period stay as an au pair. When the au pair applies for the permit, she should not have started her stay in Iceland. 
 
It is necessary to stipulate a contract that may be only required at the Icelandic Foreign Office "Utlendingastofnun (UTL)"
