Young au pairs who wants to go in Austria must have a basic knowledge of German.
The Au Pair must be aged between 18 and 28 years old.
Pocket money is about 360 euros per month and working hours are about 20 hours per week.
The au pair hasn't vacation, but at least a full day free per week. Travel expenses are in charge of the au pair.
The au pairs from EU countries needn't a visa. All other au pairs must apply for a visa at the Austrian Embassy in their country.
To host an au pair the family must notify at the Service for the labor market at least 2 weeks before the au pair gets to work and have to produce at this office an employment contract signed by the family and by the au pair. The service for the labor market makes a statement of service (Anzeigebestatigung) and the au pair can be employed without having to apply for other permits.
Citizens of the EU and member countries of the European Economic Area do not need a residence permit. However, if the au pair wants to stay in Austria for more than 3 months, she must register with the Austrian authorities.
Citizens of other countries can obtain a residence permit at the embassy or consulate of Austria in their country of origin. To obtain this permit, they shall submit the declaration of service (Anzeigebestätigung). This document is required for the issuance of residence permits.
In addition, the host family must stipulate for the au pair a health insurance and an accident insurance.
The duration of the stay in Austria is at maximum one year.
